Through my retail jobs, I have learned and developed a lot of skills. For instance, at the bakery, I was trained to run the shop alone, which included completing relevant paperwork such as stock take, ordering goods, and filling out the necessary food and hygiene records as well as cooking and cashing up. This exponentially grew my organisational skills as well as built up my confidence to use my initiative. I was then placed in a supervisory role which pushed me out of my comfort zone but I am very much a team player so I thrived in this position. There was a lot of challenges we faced such as understaffing. However, I would come into the shop to start setting up half an hour before my shift and would set out a rough plan for the day that my colleagues and I would follow to keep us on target.I studied English and Creative Writing (BA) at the University of South Wales in Trefforest for a year and a half before I had to suspend my studies. I learned how to plan and organise myself to complete big workloads to deadlines. Through work-shopping, I have gained an invaluable understanding of how to take constructive criticism and implement relevant changes in my edits.After I left University I began communicating with the Dean of the faculty about safeguarding concerns I had as well as solutions that would cost the University little to nothing. After persevering for a couple of months, the University did invoke changes such as becoming partnered with the mental health charity Mind as well as setting up an online feedback service for students.
