Sport is een belangrijk onderdeel van mijn leven sinds mijn kindertijd, aangezien ik op 6-jarige leeftijd begon met competitief zwemmen. Aangezien ik van sport hield, was het voor mij een volkomen logische stap om Bewegings- en Sportwetenschappen te studeren aan de Universiteit Gent. Tijdens de afronding van mijn masterproef, getiteld "Analyse van het bewegingsniveau bij Vlaamse kinderen", raakte ik gefascineerd door onderzoek. In 2004 kreeg ik de kans om onmiddellijk te starten aan de Hogeschool Gent, om toekomstige bewegingsdeskundigen op te leiden. Door de jaren heen als docent en ook als moeder waren het vooral de motorische vaardigheden van kinderen die mijn aandacht trokken en mijn passie voor dit onderzoeksdomein aanwakkerden. Dit bracht mij ertoe om mijn kennis te verdiepen door in 2018 de post HBO opleiding 'motorische remedial teaching' in Nederland af te ronden. Tijdens deze cursus raakte ik helemaal in de ban van 'zachte hindernisbanen' tijdens de gymlessen. In 2019 zette de Hogeschool Gent meer in op onderzoek en bood startende onderzoekers met maatschappelijk waardevolle onderzoeksideeën de middelen die ze nodig hadden. Na deze evolutie startten we ons onderzoeksproject. En nu, vier jaar later, hebben we net de dataverzameling afgerond en kijken we uit naar de eerste resultaten.Sport has been an important part of my life since childhood as I started swimming competitively at the age of 6. As I loved sport, it was a completely logical step for me to study Movement and Sports Sciences at Ghent University. During the completion of my master’s thesis, titled “Analysis of the physical activity levels among Flemish children”, I became fascinated by research. In 2004, I was given the opportunity to immediately start at the Ghent University College, to educate future movement experts. Over the years as lecturer and also as a mother, it were specifically the motor skills of children that captured my attention and sparked my passion for this field of research. This led me to deepen my knowledge by completing the post HBO course ‘motor remedial teaching’ in the Netherlands in 2018. During this course I became completely captivated by ‘soft obstacle courses’ during PE lessons. In 2019 the University College of Ghent committed more to research and offered starting researchers with socially valuable research ideas the resources that they needed. Following this evolution,we started our research project. And now, four years later, we just finished the data collection and are looking forward to the first results.
