The projects have been funded by National Science Foundation (NSF), Department of Defense (DOD), Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SEDRP) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) which the most significant ones are listed in following:• Developed numerical model in ANSYS-Fluent by implementation of User Defined Function (UDF) to simulate the thermal-fluid characteristic of a small scale Direct Contact Membrane distillation and enhance the water production by 20% by designing mesh spacer.• Acquired hands-on experience; built the entire set-up of a closed circuit of Direct Contact Membrane Distillation system including data acquisition (DAQ) systems, test section, Heat exchanger, reservoir, gear pump, flow meter, thermocouples, and flow control systems.• Developed a thermal hydraulic model in MATLAB to simulate multiple series and parallel connected membrane distillation modules to produce purified water up to 0.28 kg/s.• Designed a novel nanoscale heat pipe using surface-diffusion-driven condensate return and simulated by non-equilibrium molecular dynamics in LAMMPS.• Analyzed the pore size distribution of membrane distillation by scanning electron microscopy.• Enhanced drop wise condensation heat transfer by 30% by a novel substrate using surface curvature gradient for directional transport and self-jumping of droplets.• Improved the water production of membrane Distillation up to 100% by a novel Carbon Nanotube Membrane Distillation and simulated by non-equilibrium molecular dynamics in LAMMPS.
