I demonstrate at Deakin University (Burwood campus), mark assignments and have given a few guest lectures. My PhD was aimed at investigating the foraging ecology of different seabird species, and in particular their individual specialisations. I used data loggers and tissue sampling to establish whether instrumented individuals had specific strategies in terms of diving behaviour, spatial use and diet. I looked at the timescales over which behavioural consistency is maintained and the link between foraging behaviour and mating. As part of the initiative, I have enjoyed leading the organisation of the Day by the Bay festivals, which took place in February and March 2019 and will be back in March 2020. I am currently working with collegues and partners to develop the other components of the initiative to ensure we can lay the foundation for long-term, community-wide stewardship and create long-lasting, positive behavioural change. Wildlife Victoria is an organisation dedicated to helping and protecting wildlife through rescue, education, and advocacy activities. My role includes taking calls from the members of the public who want to report sick, injured or orphaned Australian native animals, coordinating rescues, liasing with veterinarians and carers and other relevant stakeholders (police, fire brigage, local councils, department of environment...) to ensure that animals in need receive the best care. Instead, we had to quickly develop a plan to keep delivering science to the general public and switch to hosting online events within a few weeks. I coordinated #ThisIsMyScience, a virtual event on Twitter and Instagram where scientists had the opportunity to present their work online using posts and engaging imagery. The event trended on Twitter. It not only gave a platform for researchers to present their work and for the public who get to know the scientists behind the latest discoveries, but it also allowed the organisation to gain exposure and followers on social media. I worked as a field assistant for the French Polar Institute. I was based on Kerguelen Islands, a remote French subantarctic territory, where I was working on seabirds and marine mammals. I collected data for long-term demographic studies and deployed data loggers for behavioural studies. The organisms I worked on include: penguins, albatrosses, petrels, skuas, fur seals, elephant seals.
