I think that it is true that an overwhelming mass of sales people never really started out wanting to be in sales. They really didn't get there by following a clearly defined and intentional career path. Most sales people sort of slid into sales as a result of being “nice” people, and showing some skills or knowledge which may have been considered helpful or useful in sales. They found the increase in income and the freedom to organise their day as they saw fit to be attractive aspects of the job.The next thing you know, they were a sales person. But how many people are truly passionate about sales?Well, from very early on I knew I had a passion to excel and to continuously evolve and develop as a sales professional.I have invested countless hours into training, reading and putting key learning into practice. All with the aim of developing an in depth understanding of the sales and account management process, and how to remain focussed on the customer experience throughout all the stages. I continue to invest a significant amount of time into my development and it has been through having an open mind, making myself vulnerable and putting new ideas and concepts into practice that I have been able to adopt the right behaviours that have enabled me to achieve outstanding results throughout a very satisfying and rewarding sales career. As I have progressed into sales leadership my passion for my own sales development has transitioned into a passion for employee development. I firmly believe that “If your actions inspire others to learn more, do more and become more, then you are a leader”. It is through taking ownership for employee development that I have consistently demonstrated my ability to to recruit, train, coach, develop and lead high performing sales teams. Inspiring and motivating people to continuously pursue self improvement has enabled me to lead teams to unlock their potential and consistently exceed sales, profitability and service targets.
