I improved my experience on marine sediments from transitional and coastal environments and sedimentological and geochemical aspects connected to the contamination levels. My research activity is devoted to understanding the environmental stress induced by human impact on the coastal zone by studying the geochemical and physical characteristic of marine sediments. I attends to several aspects concerning these topics: sampling strategies and application methods for marine and beach sediments aimed to their geochemical and physical characterisation; geochemical and environmental characterisation finalised to the reclamation of coastal marine areas near dismissed industrial sites; marine coastal monitoring for the determination of water trophism and of pollutant concentration in coastal sediments. In addition, the response of benthic foraminifera to anthropogenic environmental stress is studied in order to assess the degree of environmental degradation, to integrate the chemical-physical environmental characterisation, and to recognise new bio-indicators. I'm author or co-author of several scientific articles on national and international journals. I'm also co-tutor of a PhD thesis on the use of benthic foraminifera as environmental indicators, and I has been Guest Editor of a special volume of Marine Pollution Bulletin on the same topic.
