Elsine van Os is a clinical psychologist and intelligence and security specialist. She is a recognized leader in insider risk management and gives keynotes on this topic all over the world. Elsine has worked on high-profile assignments for the Dutch Ministry of Defense and Shell International, where she held global responsibility for security threat assessments. She worked as an intelligence and security specialist in over 50 countries. She is especially known for her work in high-risk regions such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Nigeria and Colombia. Working for years in high-risk environments assessing all forms of (cyber) security threats, Elsine observed the heavy reliance on physical and technological solutions at the expense of the human factor. This is unfortunate because we can only effectively deal with insider security threats when we have an eye for both technical and behavioural, cold and warm processes that together lead to threat. This lacuna in the dominant approaches to fighting security threat led Elsine to found Signpost Six in 2016. Signpost Six focuses on the management of insider risk using tools from both the technical and behavioural sciences. Elsine works on mitigating threats from nation state espionage and organised crime at multinational organisations. She is a regular public speaker at international forums like the Insider Risk Summit and the Global Security Exchange. Elsine has several academic affiliations, among others with the Dutch Defence Academy and she is a peer reviewer of the Counter-Insider Threat Research and Practice in the US. She is the owner of Signpost Film Productions that released a documentary about Edward Snowden in 2018.In her career Elsine is devoted to bridging divides in many ways, because she believes (and has learned) that only multi-disciplines, multi-perspectives, multi-voices approaches to tackling tough societal and organisational problems (such as preventing and dealing with organisational security threats) are likely to succeed. Security threat is not a technical problem, it is not a clinical problem, it is not a psychological problem, not an organisational problem, and not a societal problem. No, it is all the above and thus these problems can only be handled successfully by bridging them.
