For as long as I can remember, I’ve enjoyed writing. It ultimately led to me completing a degree in communications; and after giving up dreams of working in the film/television industry, I stumbled into nonprofit fundraising. At age 23, I entered the profession with high hopes of using the communication skills I’d spent years sharpening to elevate good.I have made more than a few attempts to exit the nonprofit fundraising profession altogether. Spending 15-plus years building relationships and raising money for a variety of causes from coast to coast has caused me to question some things. Does this career path still fit me? Is this area of work where I can make my most valuable contribution professionally? After a necessary nine-month hiatus from the profession, I began a new position at the New Orleans Museum of Art. The newly created Director of Major and Planned Giving role allows me to gain even broader experience as a development professional. Additionally, this opportunity marks the first where I have advanced the mission of a fine arts cultural institution.Continuing to take huge leaps of faith, I am yet traversing a journey of personal reinvention, learning more about myself and identifying untapped potential ripe for activation.
