Research Accomplishments- Deep Foundations • Designed blasting layouts (the appropriate amount of explosive charges, detonation delay, and charge spacing) required to produce soil liquefaction.• Conducted various geotechnical field investigations including field surveys, field inspections and visual inspections, and monitored boreholes drilling. • Designed and monitored the installation of driven pile foundations including one HP14x117 steel H-pile, two 18-inch diameter closed ended steel pipe piles and two 18-inch by 18-inch pre-stressed precast concrete piles.• Performed full-scale static loading tests including top down and AFT cell bi-directional load cell tests on driven pile.• Performed full-scale, blast-induced liquefaction testing for 1) free-field as pilot test and 2) around deep foundations elements (driven piles and drilled shafts) to evaluate the loss of side resistance and development of dragload and downdrag after soil liquefaction. Research Accomplishments-Unsaturated Soil Properties • Performed numerous laboratory soil index properties tests such as: Atterberg limits, mechanical sieve and hydrometer analysis, percentage passing the No. 200 (75-m) sieve, and specific gravity.• Performed laboratory testing in accordance with ASTM standards including: flexible-wall permeability, direct and simple shear, static weight consolidation, incremental load consolidation, triaxial shear, and compaction tests.• Constructed compacted clay liners (test pads) indoors and outdoors, following the specifications commonly used to construct landfill liners.• Performed in-situ hydraulic conductivity tests such as: two-stage borehole, sealed double ring infiltrometer, and open double ring infiltrometer.• Analyzed and interpreted laboratory and field test data and prepared technical reports.
