Mtd (Military Transport Driver)Zambia Air Force Apr 1999 - Aug 2004As a ZAF (MTD) Driver I played a role in operating all of our general service vehicles, from motorbikes through to articulated trucks and within that I was operating in a Combat Service Support unit as part of a close-knit transport section (four to six vehicles).I was trained to operate our vehicles by day and night, in all weather conditions and terrain, from convoy driving on sealed state highways to tactical, off-road navigation, drive, operate, service and maintain vehicles, gaining a range of licenses, license endorsements, and ZAF MTD unit standards.In the Zambia Air Force I was using a huge variety of vehicles: motorbikes, cars, the Light Operating Vehicle, the truck, the new technologically advanced Medium Heavy Operational Vehicles (MHOV,) and Heavy Equipment Transport (HET). I was taught how to safely operate all these vehicles in all kinds of operational situations, such as passenger transport, distribution of supplies and hazardous goods transportation. I also learnt basic mechanic skills for operator servicing and routine maintenance.My day to day responsibilities were passenger transportation in a variety of scenarios ranging from community groups, VIP, humanitarian disaster relief, and driving soldiers to training exercises. Servicing vehicles and developing military driving skills such as tactical mobility and navigation, multi-vehicle convoy operations, driving in formation, loading stores and equipment, and vehicle recovery, also practiced in vehicle deployments and concealment.
