I’m Ely Valentin, a 25-year-old graduate from St. John’s University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Homeland Security. My education gave me a solid foundation in security protocols, risk management, and crisis response. During my time at St. John’s, I studied subjects like terrorism prevention, emergency planning, cybersecurity, and disaster preparedness. I was passionate about learning how to protect people and critical infrastructure, which shaped my career path.After graduating, I spent a year and a half working for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). This role provided me with hands-on experience in airport security operations, where I became skilled at screening passengers and luggage for potential threats. I got to work with advanced security technology, including X-ray machines, metal detectors, and explosive trace detection systems. I also developed a sharp eye for identifying suspicious behavior and making sure all federal safety regulations were strictly followed.Working at TSA really helped me improve my communication skills, too. I interacted with people from all walks of life, explaining security procedures in a clear and calm manner, and dealing with challenging situations professionally. The job taught me how to remain vigilant under pressure and pay close attention to detail, as well as how to follow security protocols to the letter.Beyond the technical aspects, my time at TSA helped me strengthen my decision-making skills. I learned how to make quick, informed decisions in high-pressure environments, balancing the need for safety with the responsibility to provide a positive experience for travelers. I also developed a deep sense of responsibility and commitment to protecting public safety.With my background in Homeland Security and the experience I gained at TSA, I’ve built strong analytical, technical, and interpersonal skills. I’m passionate about safeguarding public spaces and tackling modern security challenges with vigilance, responsibility, and professionalism.
