Jul 2019 - Present

Post-Doctoral Researcher

This research project sought to characterise the movement of novel cancer vaccine molecules in immune cells using state-of-the-art cell imaging platforms. I conducted a comparative analysis of multiple cell staining protocols to determine the best method for subsequent cell imaging.

Jul 2018 - Oct 2018

Phd Student

The overarching aim of my PhD was to characterise the influence of immune-stimulating molecules on immune cells found in human skin, to identify which of these molecules would increase the strength of the immune response towards cancer. I developed a novel skin explant model to test these molecules in human skin. Data from my PhD highlighted diverse and synergistic responses of different immune-stimulating molecules and contributes to the development of therapeutic cancer vaccines.

2014 - 2018 ~4 yrs

Laboratory Technician

As a laboratory technician, I was required to register, confirm, prepare and analyse all microbiological samples that were submitted to the lab. I was also responsible for all media preparation, equipment maintenance and calibration, and culture preparation.

Dec 2012 - Oct 2013

University Of Otago Summer Studentship

Dunedin

Under the supervision of Dr Roslyn Kemp, this summer research project was a continuation of my honours project in the pursuit of obtaining enough data for publishing. The main focus was to optimise the siRNA transfection protocol, allowing sufficient knockdown of ApoL6 mRNA in immortalised tumour cells to determine the effect on apoptosis.

Dec 2011 - Feb 2012

Fonterra Tif Summer Studentship - Evaluating Biochemical Profiles Of Anoxybacillus And Geobacillus

Fonterra Research Centre

Under the supervision of Dr Denise Lindsay, I completed a TIF summer internship at Fonterra Research Centre which involved determining biochemical profiles of species of the Anoxybacillus and Geobacillus genera, bacteria commonly isolated from milk powder. I characterised spoilage enzyme production for a number of isolates and determined a number of biochemical tests that can distinguish between the two genera, allowing rapid identification of unknown isolates obtained from milk powder samples.
