During my time studying at both Ohio State University and Ohio University, I focused on poverty and inequality. After graduation, I served as an AmeriCorps member at the YWCA Columbus, where I equipped homeless families with some of the resources and financial skills necessary to successfully sustain housing. After my year-long commitment through AmeriCorps, I was offered a staff position at the YWCA, as an SSI/SSDI Benefits Specialist. Along with another full-time co-worker, I assisted homeless individuals and families in Columbus in accessing food, medical, and cash benefits from Job and Family Services and the Social Security Administration. My co-worker and I ran a Benefits Partnership which was deemed High Performing by the Community Shelter Board. We served hundreds of individuals every quarter and made continuous improvements to our process. We conducted regular outreach to shelter and permanent supportive housing staff so that they felt empowered to make appropriate referrals to our program. In order to continue to grow my knowledge of the disability determination process and to continue to serve disabled Ohioans, I worked for the State of Ohio as a Disability Claims Adjudicator and for Sedgwick as a Senior Disability Representative. In April 2018, I was ready to return to the nonprofit world, as my passion is truly in serving others. In August, I finished my MBA from Capital University, and in November, I became the Program Manager for supportive services at Asian American Community Services.I am a graduate of the Chase Gen Y Leadership Project, a program for young professional women in Columbus. I have completed additional coursework in grant writing, medical terminology, and professional development. In my free time, I volunteer with PetPromise Inc., an animal rescue organization. It has been a pleasure to call Columbus my home and I hope to continue to grow both personally and professionally here!
