Developed, researched, wrote, and portrayed a number of engaging historical characters around NY State Learning Standards and primary sources, including one of the first female train conductors in 1917, a journalist headed to the 1964 World’s Fair, and a forward-thinking citizen-scientist who helped to solve the noise-pollution problem of New York’s elevated trains (with the help of her student visitors!) in 1878.Additionally wrote, directed and performed in a number of educational family shows on topics such as the very first pneumatic subway in NYC in 1870, the history of Grand Central Terminal, how the New York subway uses electricity (Time Warner Foundation grant recipient), the MTA’s Music Under New York Program, and even an Epic Rap Battle about weather preparedness and sustainability!Trained new performers and constructed costumes, sets, and props for all shows, as well as worked in conjunction with marketing and education staff to develop promotional/learning materials. Frequently adapted performances for special events appearances and further facilitated other events such as Subway Swing, Transit Trivia, Camp Wanna-Catcha-Train, Bus Fest, and Platform: Creative Musings on Mass Transit.Elysia’s Mary Walton program was featured by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and as part of the United Nations 2018 International Day of Women and Girls in Science international livestream. She has also discussed her work at the annual conference of the International Museum Theatre Alliance (IMTAL) and published an article on the process of using primary sources to bring Mary Walton to life for museum visitors in their publication, “Insights."
