Em Petro is an emerging museum professional and recent graduate of The George Washington University where they have received their M.A. in Museum Studies with a concentration in Exhibitions and Visitor Experience. Originally from Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, Em received their B.A. in Entertainment and Visual Arts Management from Waynesburg University. Thus far in their career, Em has spent most of their time working for the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy at Fallingwater where they have been exploring the intersection of museums, art, and the environment. During their time at GW, Em worked as an Exhibitions Assistant at the Corcoran School of the Arts & Design where they have been exploring work in art handling, installation, and exhibition development. With their new understanding of installation, Em hopes to combine their professional skills to create balance with their recreational practice.Driven by a passion for learning, Em is committed to understanding the ability museums have to influence public perception and is eager to push boundaries to create positive, innovative, and disruptive change through their practice. As Em navigates the different avenues of museum work, they have found particular interest in topics like house museums, interpreting private family collections, auction house management, and art handling.Outside of museum research and collaboration, Em is also a ceramicist and spends their evenings continuing their artistic practice. Combining their professional and recreational practice allows Em to explore how people understand and interpret form.
