From September 2022 to April 2024, I was a scholarship holder in the special program “Metropolises in Eastern Europe” of the German National Academic Foundation, funded by the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation with a stay in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. During this time, I managed my own extensive research project. I started my stay abroad with an Autumn School in Zagreb, HR, on Croatian culture and language, followed by an academic year of courses at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities and attended the KUMA Summer School in Sarajevo, BiH. Finally, I spent 6 months at the Ivo Pilar Institute for Social Sciences in Zagreb, HR, as a visiting researcher and used the space there to write my Master's thesis. I also undertook independent exploratory research trips to the regions of Istria, Slavonia, Dalmatia, Zagorje and Lika-Karlovac. The program supports stays abroad in Eastern Europe of between 7 months and 4 semesters, during which students pursue their own research projects. Individual and unusual projects off the beaten track are welcome. Students are also accepted into the scholarship program. For example, this gave me the opportunity to take part in a summer academy in Ljubljana, SLO, in summer 2023.
