Emad Ebeid is a Danish-Egyptian engineer and a full professor at the Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, University of Southern Denmark. He earned his Ph.D. in Embedded Systems from the University of Verona, Italy, with a European Doctorate label in 2014. Ebeid also leads the SDU Digital and High-Frequency Electronics section.Ebeid specializes in designing Autonomous Drone Systems for infrastructure inspection and interaction. His research leverages cutting-edge technologies such as MPSoCs and FPGAs to develop an advanced reconfigurable onboard unit. This unit is crucial for controlling drone operations, enabling the detection and grasping of powerlines for recharging.Since 2017, Ebeid has secured over €7 million in research funding to develop advanced self-recharging drones for powerline inspections and maintenance, pushing the TRL from 3 to 7 and making the technology market-ready. He served as the Coordinator for the EU H2020 Drones4Safety project and the Innovation Fund Grand Solutions Drones4Energy project. His extensive involvement in EU projects spans embedded systems, robotics, drones, IoT, and smart grids. Ebeid is also a Senior member of IEEE. Additionally, he is dedicated to teaching and mentoring students, contributing significantly to the academic community through his courses in embedded systems and supervision of PhD research projects.
