Traveled to DC, TN, AR, and VA to interview federal staff involved in SCI, local and regional community development and planning practitioners. Collaborated and consulted with HUD staff, researchers at Kirwan Institute and VCU, and funders at Ford and Surdna Foundations on research design, co-wrote funding application. Co-developed survey of grantee regions, wrote paper for HUD journal Cityscape on survey results, co-authored report aimed at practitioners and policymakers on SCI implementation. Writing case studies and co-hosting webinar with PolicyLink aimed at MPOs and local practitioners implementing SCI sustainability plans, e.g. SPARCC participants, with a particular focus on challenges for conservative/rural regions. Developed regional sustainability website.

Led student research team in assembling/analyzing large spatial dataset on industrial zoning from assessor’s data and data from cities using GIS/fieldwork to understand trends in industrial land zoning/use/conversion to housing in the Bay Area for Industrial Land Project. Consulted with regional government client and technical advisory committee made up of local economic development officials and practitioners. Developed typology of industrial land designations, interviewed commercial real estate brokers and small business owners, contributed writing, editing, layout supervision, photography to reports aimed at practitioners and policymakers. Co-authored report and paper on early indicators of SCI program success. Research support on Big Ideas for Job Creation project. Contributed to report on green jobs and workforce development.

Analyzed National Center for Charitable Statistics data. Traveled to USC for training on Building Resilient Regions dataset by PERE staff. Supported Prof. Weir with MacArthur-funded BRR website/launch previously as undergrad/postbac assistant.
