I was the managing editor for ACTE's monthly magazine, Techniques. It was a one-woman show. I did every thing from setting the editorial calendar to line edits. I learned a lot and am grateful for the experience.

My duties as governance manager included assisting with projects related to the board and annual meetings, as well as special events, such as material creation, meeting logistics, invitations, board reports, etc. In addition, I supported the EVP in developing and directing NAEA’s strategic planning process; planned and ran the annual board of directors' elections; and served as the staff liaison for various committees. I even booked travel and processed expense reports. I served as the governance manager and the managing editor of the EA Journal concurrently.

NAEA is where I got my first taste at running a magazine all by myself. As managing editor of NAEA's bi-monthly publication, the EA Journal, I edited articles (with the help of fantastic technical reviewers), set the editorial calendar with the assistance of the editorial board, and worked with the editorial board to procure and review articles for publication.

As assistant managing editor, and under the direction of the managing editor, I edited and revised articles to ensure clarity and accuracy, copyedited material during each stage of the publication cycle, coordinated with authors to meet editorial deadlines, and any other duties the managing editor assigned. I also wrote press releases, sold ad space, handled press calls, and a few other odd jobs. I even did some meeting planning during this period.

Gaithersburg, Maryland

Under the supervision of the director of publications, I edited articles and peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts to ensure clarity and accuracy, interviewed scientific personnel on laboratory management topics/issues and wrote articles based on these interviews, and I coordinated withfreelancers, international and domestic authors to write articles to meet editorial calendar deadlines. Basically, I was an editorial assistant with a fancy title.
