Manager, Technical Development (Optical Engineer)Indizen Optical Technologies, S.L.U. Oct 2018 - Dec 2020Madrid, Comunidad De Madrid, EsTechnical experience with digital ophthalmic lens testing, production, and design. Maintaining my motto of “It’s a beautiful day to save eyes.”• Used my native proficiency in Spanish to collaborate with our Research and Development team in Spain to establish and integrate new technologies and process improvements in the US. • Performed measurements on sample ophthalmic lenses using an A&R Dual Lens Mapper and digital lens meter to verify that they were within ISO/ANSI standards.• Created specialized lens designs tailored for specific occupational needs or applications. • Applied my optical background and knowledge of proprietary Free Form Designer (ophthalmic lens design software) to troubleshoot lens calculation malfunctions through customer inquiries. • Used measurements taken from sample lenses and processed them using MATLAB to create transmission and reflection power maps that can be used to diagnose possible process issues. • Created a classification function using MATLAB to sort acceptable or defective anti-reflective (AR) coating samples to accelerate and simplify the quality control process. • Traveled on site to customer labs across the U.S. to perform product installations and aided customers in improving the quality of their lens manufacturing process. -
Optical Design EngineerWavelength References Inc Oct 2016 - Feb 2018Technical experience with absorption spectroscopy, laser sources, fiber optics, modeling, lenses and free space components. • Designed new optical products and developed test protocols to evaluate performance specifications using lab equipment such as: oscilloscopes, wavelength meters, component spectrum analyzers and power meters. • Characterized the absorption spectra of sealed gas cells and designed optical calibration sources for use in tunable lasers to be used in the telecommunications industry. • Evacuated gas cells to pressures below 30 mTorr using vacuum pumps and back filled them up to atmosphere with compressed gas cylinders containing HCN, C2H2, HF, NH3, H2S, CO, CO2 and other custom gases. • Final inspected outgoing fiber coupled and photodiode parts for the proper absorption and to make sure no defects in anti-reflective (AR) coatings or etalons were present. • Assembled absorption line calibrated Clarity tunable lasers by probing sources, soldering parts, building cable assemblies and calibrating lasers. • Adjusted the drive function for a thermoelectric cooler DAC input using the C programming language in order to smooth out the thermistor response in a tunable diode laser setup. • Used ESEM’s [Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope] spectroscopic capabilities to analyze defective dendritic patterns on transparent sapphire windows seemingly caused by expose to HF gas.• Communicated with laser sources and wave meter instruments using Python to perform future product characterization tests. • Stripped, cleaved and spliced in fiber optics components. -
Advanced Optics LaboratoryUniversity Of Oregon Jun 2015 - Jun 2017Eugene, Or, UsOur group built a low rotation sensing Interferometric Fiber Optic Gryoscope (I-FOG) using an amplified open loop Sagnac interferometer. The device has been measured to detect rotations as low as 1 degree per minute. We achieved this sensitivity using a piezoelectric modulator paired with a lock-in amplifier to reduce the noise and amplify the signal. This technique could be extended to detect the rotation of the earth at 0.25 degrees per minute.Technical experience with lasers, fiber optics, modeling in Zemax OpticStudio and free space components; specializing in lasers and fiber optics. • Learned about diffraction optics, calibrated, aberration corrected and focused the Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) beam to examine lab samples. • Used EDX or “EDA" Energy Dispersive X-Ray Analysis to identify unknown rock material composition. • Deposited a thin laser of conductive gold material on a spider to be inspected in a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). • Used JMP Pro Statistics Software in Design of Experiments (DOE) class as an introduction to comparative experiments, general factorial and mixture design. • Built a Sagnac Fiber Optic Interferometer with a sensitivity of 10-5 rad/s to measure the rotation of the Earth. • Built free space and fiber optic interferometers. • Used CCD cameras to characterize HeNe laser beams. • Demonstrated proficiency in ZEMAX Optic Studio by modeling the lens setup in a DSLR camera and the coupling of light into a single mode fiber with an efficiency of 67%. • Aligned Mach-Zander interferometers using beam profilers, including M2 metrology tools to characterize Gaussian laser beam propagation. • Modeled the optical properties of solids and coatings using Mathematica, MATLAB, and matrix optics. • Soldered, constructed and diagnosed electrical systems such as circuit drivers and piezoelectric phase electro-optic modulators to protect sensitive laser components. -
Associate ConsultantSmall Business Development Center Mar 2014 - Sep 2016• Coordinated with business owners to apply for loans, totaling $400,000, to create business plans and successfully submit applications.• Actively engaged with business owners to arrange meetings and gather necessary confidential paperwork on time while also translating for Spanish speakers. • Advised and assisted in creating the concept for a co-working space which opened with 15 paying members.
