Emediong Uko | (b. Abuja, Nigeria) is a Nigerian multidisciplinary artist who creates conceptual artwork that explores various realms of society at large. Her work is afro-centric by nature, birthing the deep, often overlooked elements of human nature with the interchanged use of surrealism and symbolism.Emediong is in the works of completing her bachelor’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the Eastern Mediterranean University, North Cyprus.Uko streamlined her childhood passions for both the sciences and the arts into a field that accommodates both effortlessly- she believes neither can exist without the other. She is greatly inspired by societal issues around her and inspiring individual stories.At 19 years of age, she became the first African and youngest person of any nationality to exhibit at the Cyprus Museum of Modern Art - what will be the largest art museum in the Near East region. Her theme piece was titled “Lagbaja: The Masked One”. The gateway piece is now in the collection of Forbes-listed businessman and owner of the museum, Suat Günsel.Emediong Uko’s artwork and budding psychological practice continues to put a spotlight on human nature with an emphasis on empathy and the journey to well-being.
