Administrative Assistant
In this role, I learned the ins and outs of running an office. I was responsible for maintaining actual and virtual records and documents, coordinating communications, bookkeeping activities, and assisting my employers and coworkers with whatever they need help with: I also drafted/revised correspondence to and on behalf of clients, assisted clients with queries related to their accounts, and analyzed data to create spreadsheets for tax, accounting, and audit work.
Graduate Teaching Assistant
As a graduate teaching assistant, I spent three semesters working in the Writing Resource Center, working with American students and English language learners one-on-one on improving their essays and writing skills. In doing so, I read and analyzed complex information across academic and technological disciplines; I then worked with students to improve their communication of that information and to help students improve their writing overall. In addition, I taught semester-long one-on-one tutorials in writing, reading, and study skills for students facing challenges in these particular areas. I utilized active listening to help students understand their challenges and their goals; then, I developed and implemented short- and long-term strategies for students to reach those goals. For three semesters, I tutored multilingual students in spoken English and taught a seminar on spoken English for law students. I gained knowledge of the motivations that bring multilingual students to American universities and understanding of the challenges they face. I developed strategies for students to improve their English in tutoring and during their free time, as well as recommending other on-campus resources to students when appropriate.I also gained experience in course/curriculum development, syllabus writing, classroom management, group instruction, presentations, and devising lesson plans as a creative writing instructor. Furthermore, I gained knowledge of LMS such as Blackboard and utilizing technological resources inside and outside of the classroom.
Future Connections Mentor At Cwru
For the Future Connections high school internship program through University Circle Inc., I planned, executed, and led an educational/internship program for approximately 16 area high school students in a biology laboratory at CWRU, with a developmentally-appropriate curriculum focused on lab skills, infectious disease, critical thinking, writing, and presentation skills. I drafted and enacted the four-week curriculum, obtained materials according to budget, and organized educational and work experience activities according to a complicated schedule.Furthermore, I lectured, led discussions and interacted with students individually for the duration of the program. I also encouraged student participation and evaluated student work and behavior throughout the program via objective evaluation criteria and individual conferences. In some instances, I managed and resolved conflicts within the classroom and between students.
Aftercare And Summer Camp Assistant
I started at Hershey Montessori as an aftercare assistant, helping in a preschool (ages 2-6) classroom during lunch and recess, as well as aiding children during naptime, and being responsible for the education, entertainment, and well-being of children in the after-school program. During the summer, I continued at the school as a summer camp assistant; my responsibilities included: playing games with children, planning crafts and educational activities, planning outdoor activities, leading meal times and nap times, as well as keeping all work and play spaces clean and safe.
Cashier
As a cashier at Murphy USA, I worked to meet customer needs and satisfaction in a fast-paced, high-stress work environment that involved goal setting and reaching. In addition to working the cash register and being responsible for customer satisfaction and complaint resolution, I marketed new items, cleaned the store and surrounding premises, and stocked shelves.
Customer Service Representative
As a customer service representative, I led/supervised shifts, communicated with customers in person and via telephone, resolved customer complaints, and was responsible for food preparation and creation.
Probate Court Intern
During the course of this summer internship, I observed court sessions in probate and criminal court and worked at a local park. Meanwhile, I spent the duration of the internship visiting wards of the court in various assisted-living and nursing homes to get to know them, ascertain their well-beings, be sure their court-appointed guardians were visiting them, and creating reports to inform the probate court about the needs and circumstances of each individual.
