The Responsibilities of a Pediatric Nurse are as follows:-Prepares patient’s room, checks necessary equipment such as suction machine, pulse oximeters, oxygen, infusion pumps, ventilator, tympanic thermometer, cardiac monitor/defibrillator, etc. -Orients patient and patient’s significant others to room and hospital policies-Observes confidentiality of patient’s information-Secures patient’s IV lines and regulate fluid rates as ordered.-Secure drains such as NGT/OGT, Foley catheters, gastric tubes, closed thoracotomy tubes, JP drains etc.-Ensures that side rails are raised, pad bed rails as necessary to prevent injury to patient -Positions bed close to the wall if applicable to prevent falls-Positions equipment around bed in a safe order to avoid being reached by patient-Assesses patient’s general condition and perform cephalo-caudal and systems assessment-Takes vital signs and neuro vital signs hourly and measure urine output hourly or as frequently depending on patient’s need-Measures drains accurately and refer for abnormalities such as bleeding and profuse output-Performs suctioning of secretions (oral, ET, tracheostomy) as needed-Checks IV sites for patency, remove IVs that are infiltrated, apply warm or cold compress to reduce inflammation -Performs IV cannulation-Prepares materials and assists physician in doing bedside procedures-For patients using bilirubin lamps: Ensures infant is at least 38 cm from light source, ensure infant has eye shield and diaper for protection, Turn infant to sides and have baby take sterile water in between feedings to prevent dehydration-Checks laboratory results from the computer and relays results to physician-Performs appropriate treatments (giving medication, bedside care etc.) as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner-Documents patient assessment findings,
