Emerald has build a career in both freelance performance as well as music teaching in the last decade. As a clarinetist, she has performed in venues across continents and has appeared with orchestras in Belgium, Germany and China. She served as the Principal Clarinetist of Sichuan Symphony Orchestra in the 2019 season. In recent years, Emerald has settled back in the GTA and has freelanced with Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, North Bay Symphony Orchestra, Sudbury Symphony Orchestra and various local orchestras. A decade into teaching, Emerald continues to be fascinated by pedagogy. At the University of Toronto, she is currently completing doctoral research on how physical training can be incorporated in clarinet pedagogy to help students become better players and prevent injuries. Outside the university, she enjoys teaching a private studio of clarinet, piano and saxophone students.
