Assistant Civil Engineer Ii
• Prepare engineering designs for local small scale bank stabilization and sediment removal projects for Guadalupe Watershed including, but not limited to, a city storm drain outfall replacement, rock rip-rap revetments, earth repair with and without rock base, and other biotechnical bank repair designs. Utilize programs such as HECRAS, GIS, AutoCAD to produce design documents.• Submit and report design details and quantities before and after construction within our Stream Maintenance Program’s (SMP) NPW database for regulatory agencies to review prior to SMP deadlines.• Communicate and cooperate with external units, such as but not limited to, CADD unit’s technicians, SMP unit’s biologists, Small Caps Construction and Design unit’s engineers, and Watershed Field Operations unit’s maintenance workers to ensure projects are complying with District and Regulatory standards, are on schedule, and are on task.• Evaluate stream bank erosion sites, estimate quantities of sediment to be removed from streams to restore capacity, use professional software to analyze and design adequate fish passage, produce and analyzed hydraulic models.• Assist with the prioritization, ranking, and cost estimating of all stream maintenance projects with a team of engineers, biologists, environmental planners, and field operations crew.• Lead the effort to update current ranking criteria for SMP projects by coordinating meetings within our unit, took responsibility of documenting and creating new ranking criteria spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel, and updating the spreadsheet after each meeting.• Assist with the review and provide comments on Capital Improvement Projects and requests from Community Projects Review Unit.• Monitor and document construction activities for stream maintenance program, ensure adherence to professional codes, standards and District specifications, and perform minor surveying activities including field data collection an office analysis.

• Assist in the design and development of construction drawings for the South County Recycled Water Pipeline Project – Wastewater Treatment Plant Service Connection. • Assist in the construction management of South County’s Phase 1B Recycled Water Pipeline – Camino Arroyo Service Line which includes tasks; coordinate and direct weekly construction meetings, produce meeting minutes and agendas, review and analyze contractor’s submittals and potential change orders, ensure adherence to project specifications, communicate with the contractor and District inspector on a regular basis to ensure project development and respond to design questions and Requests For Information submittals (RFI), and observe construction activities periodically• Work in a team setting and coordinate with other regulatory agencies such as, the City of Gilroy and South County Regional Wastewater Authority (SCRWA) and effectively communicate the design and construction of pipeline projects• Prepare and submit encroachment permits to Caltrans and Union Pacific Railroad Company
