Our mission is to empower diverse talent to excel as professionals through opportunity and a supportive community.The Emerging Leaders Internship (ELI) matches recent graduates and college students of color with paid internships at top companies throughout the Portland Metro area. Since 2016, over 200 interns have participated in the program, with many successfully transitioning into full-time roles.The Emerging Leaders Mentoring (ELM) program empowers people of color, women, and other underrepresented groups who seek careers in the technology and healthcare industries by matching them with established professionals to engage in a formal mentoring relationship. Mentees are enrolled in TechRise PDX or NW Promise.Emerging Leaders was co-founded by Su Embree, Ben Sand, and Ryan Buchanan as they imagined how an internship program could catalyze a new “normal” for the Greater Portland area by galvanizing local businesses to play an active role in fostering diversity and equity. EL is made possible through the support of The Columbia-Willamette Workforce Collaborative—made up of Worksystems Inc., SW Washington Workforce Development Council, and the Workforce Investment Council of Clackamas County—which supports local leaders in Portland and SW Washington to help the region compete economically.If you’re interested in building a dynamic future for more diverse leaders—not just maintaining the status quo—you should join us.
