Emerick Dee is entering his 18th year of teaching and 7th year at Traverse City Area Public Schools where he teaches at West Middle School. Previously he taught for seven years at Roscommon HS & MS. He graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education in 2003. His goal is to SING!...PaSsionatelyPersIstentlyPatieNtlyPursuinGPerfection!…while inspiring students to become mature, motivated, and musical men and women. His students consistently earn top ratings at MSVMA District and State S&E and District & State Choral Festivals. His students successfully audition and participate annually in the 6-7-8-9 & HS Regional and State Honors Choirs and All-State Choir. He serves as an accompanist for MSVMA Summer Workshops and accompanied and led sectionals for the State Honors Choirs in: 2009 (HS SSAA), 2010 & 2011 (7-8-9 SATB), 2012 (HS TTBB), 2013 (7-8-9 SSA), 2014 & 2015 (7-8-9 TBB). He has been nominated three times to direct a 6-7-8-9 Honors Choir and was a finalist in 2012. He was elected in January to direct the 7-8-9 TTB State Honors Choir in 2016. He serves the MSVMA as an adjudicator and clinician/consultant. He presented sessions at the at the Summer Workshop in 2013 and 2014. He served as the MSVMA District 9 Manager from 2009-2013. He is on the Full Board of MSVMA as Supervisor for State Choral Festival (Central site). Mr. Dee sings in a professional men’s octet called MEME under the direction of Dr. Clayton Parr. Mr. Dee and his middle school students are the subjects of a book and DVD being written by former president of the NAMC (National Association for Music Education), Dr. Lynn Brinckmeyer, The 3 R’s – Real Kids, Real Teachers, Really Good Singing. Emerick serves as an Elder of Sojourn Church in Traverse City, Michigan. Emerick loves spending time with his wife, Janelle, and four children (Piper, David, William and Georgiana).
