A Tallahassee native, Emerson attended the University of Mississippi where he served as the Vice President of the Student Body, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in political science.A veteran political communicator with an emphasis on crisis management and rapid response, Emerson has served as the Communications Director for several members of Congress, including Congressman John Rutherford (FL-04) and Congressman Gregg Harper (MS-03). During that time, Emerson led various nationally high-profile issues, including the STOP School Violence Act, which strengthened security and awareness in schools following the shooting at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, as well as the Congressional Accountability Act review of the sexual harassment policies for members of Congress.Emerson has worked on several political campaigns, including the including the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections, and the 2018 Florida gubernatorial election, among others. Following the 2018 gubernatorial campaign, Emerson served the DeSantis-Nuñez Transition as a communications specialist. After the Governor’s inauguration, Emerson joined the Florida Department of Health as the Director of Communications where managed the crisis-communication strategies for the department’s various public health issues, including: red tide, blue green algae, “flesh-eating bacteria”, hepatitis A public health emergency, Zika, Ebola, various cancer clusters, West Nile Virus, vaping epidemic, and more. Emerson now serves as the communications manager for the James Madison Institute, Florida's premier free-market think tank. He is responsible for implementing communications strategies to grow the Institute’s brand to local and national audiences, while increasing the engagement of current supporters and members through timely and effective targeted issue campaigns, earned and paid media, podcast and video content, social media messaging, and more.
