The Good Samaritan Clinic is a nonprofit that has been serving low-income and uninsured residents since 1999, aiming to “promote the dignity and healing of all human life” through free medical and dental care. This service extends to several counties in West Alabama, reaching individuals who often fall through the gaps in traditional healthcare systems. As a volunteer at the Good Samaritan Clinic, I work in the dispensary, providing essential medications to patients across West Alabama. My role involves engaging with patients to ensure they receive the necessary medication for their care, focusing on patient education and compassion. I’ve also applied my operational management skills to work towards implementing an inventory system that optimizes medication tracking.

I played a pivotal role in cultivating a love for science among elementary to middle school students in Tuscaloosa County and Tuscaloosa City Schools during the summer. Collaborating with fellow UA Biology majors, I designed and executed engaging lesson plans, hands-on experiments, and interactive knowledge checks tailored to diverse grade levels. Fostering a collaborative teaching environment, I emphasized the importance of teamwork while ensuring a stimulating and safe atmosphere for students to actively participate. By actively engaging in community outreach, I contributed to the advancement of STEM education locally. Continuously striving for improvement, I evaluated the effectiveness of teaching methods, incorporated innovative approaches, and remained dedicated to inspiring the next generation of scientists through the exploration of biology concepts in a hands-on and interactive setting.

I had the privilege of participating in the Partnership Research Summer Training Program (PRSTP) at the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) during May-July 2022. As an honors-level undergraduate student, I engaged in independent cancer research projects, delving into the realms of cancer medicine and basic cancer research. Proficient in advanced laboratory techniques, I conducted Western Blots and MTT assays, showcasing my dedication to exploring the molecular intricacies of cellular processes. Additionally, I took on the responsibility of maintaining cell lines to ensure the integrity of our research data.This transformative program not only provided hands-on practical experience but also offered a comprehensive approach to learning. I attended weekly cancer education seminars, gaining insights from esteemed faculty members. The program also facilitated mentorship, connecting me with experienced researchers in the field to work on a cancer-related research project. The pinnacle of this experience was the Cancer Research Symposium (CRS), where I had the honor of presenting my research findings through a research abstract and poster. This immersive experience significantly enhanced my knowledge, scientific techniques, and expertise in cancer research, setting the stage for future endeavors in cancer-related graduate programs or medical school.
