I am a first-generation student at the University of Notre Dame, currently a junior studying Electrical Engineering and minoring in Latino Studies. I am driven by a deep passion for creating technological solutions that address disparities in underserved communities. Growing up in Santa Ana, California—a city known for its rich cultural history—I witnessed firsthand how economic and social gaps can prevent communities from flourishing. While Santa Ana is celebrated for its vibrant culture, art, and festivals, many low-income families face barriers that make progress difficult. I’ve seen some of the most hardworking and resilient people remain stuck in cycles of limited opportunities. This inspired me to pursue a path where I could make meaningful change and help bridge these gaps.At Notre Dame, I had the privilege of conducting research at the Lucy Family Institute for Data and Society. There, I collaborated with the EPOCH Lab to address a public health challenge in St. Joseph County, a community similarly affected by resource limitations. Through this work, I saw how technology can be a powerful tool for problem-solving, and it deepened my commitment to using my skills to create tangible improvements in the lives of those in underserved areas. In addition to my academic pursuits, I serve on the board of the Society of Latino Engineers and Scientists, where I advocate for the inclusion and support of underrepresented students in STEM. My goal is to empower these students, ensuring they feel a sense of belonging and access to the opportunities they need to succeed. This past summer, I interned at ComEd, an electrical utilities company in Chicago, where I worked with the electrical design and reliability team. I learned how essential reliable energy is for communities, especially in critical areas where a power outage can have serious consequences. During this experience, I realized that I thrive in environments that combine technical challenges with team collaboration. I’m now seeking a project management role where I can continue to apply my engineering expertise while leading teams to solve complex problems. As I move forward in my career, my goal remains clear: to apply my technical knowledge and leadership skills to create solutions that help underserved communities break through barriers and reach their full potential.
