👋 Hi, I'm Emi, an industrial/communication designer consumed by the way social infrastructure can cultivate genuine community connections. Currently, I live on the traditional territory of the Tsartlip and Tsawout First Nations in Victoria, BC but have worked on design teams across North America, Europe, and the Middle East to study diverse cities and their connections to the built environment. I am a co-founder of Neighbour Lab; a worker co-operative at the intersection of urban design and community engagement contributing to the resilience of neighbourhood relationships. I also work as the Designer and Workshop Lead at the Island Health Innovation Lab, pushing human centred design and creativity to the forefront of public design for health. I like to bring diverse voices together in creative ways that promote happy and healthy societies. In between hosting design jams you can find me in the garage with my father designing electric crate motors that resemble old school vintage engines. I adore the personality of rusty hot rods and believe EV conversions are the most sustainable way to preserve this history while decreasing the environmental impact of the transportation industry.

As a co-owner I take on the roll of creative director and I’m responsible for presenting the lab in a way that excites the world. I develop the visual brand of the lab and apply it to all projects. I write and direct video campaigns, design posters and publications and curate the social media accounts and newsletters. Alongside my team members I determined innovative user pathways aimed at local, on-demand production through research of new digital processes such as 3D scanning, augmented reality and Social Media as a means to better connect the community of pet owners. Informed by co-creative workshops, I established new, digital based strategies for RC Pets products through system mapping and prototyping UX wireframes. I assisted in sketching the UI of the final app design and directed the app promotional video for presentation to clients. -

Here I modeled CAD drawings using OnShape, illustrated ideas through quick sketches and scale mock-ups, sourced textiles and manufactures, rapidly prototyped textile designs for packaging, created industry standard tech packs, layout designs for cut sheets, catalogs and assembly manuals.
