About Emil Kilde
I am a philosopher, storyteller, and amateur gymnast. This means, that I know how to think creatively and methodically, can communicate empathetically and engagingly, as well as overwhelmingly and mind-blowingly impressive handstands.Feats I am proud of include; 1. Writing a 400+ page fantasy novel. I have always loved writing and wanted to pursue it, so during my MA I also followed an online creative writing course taught by fantasy author Brandon Sanderson at Brigham Young University. After taking the course I wrote an "existential fantasy" novel and I am currently writing a second one. While I thrive in all aspects of the writing process, I would say I am best at writing relatable, character-dependent dialogue and I am the least good at writing coherent/structured magic systems.2. Finishing my MA in philosophy with a 12 for my thesis and an 11,14 overall score. 3. Organizing a 6-month study at Chuo University in Tokyo on my own. Also: I am the only person I know that can do 6 consecutive handstand pushups (freestanding!)... or any handstand pushups at all. Most recently, I have taken an interest in coding, specifically learning C++ object-oriented programming, such as for developing games or apps. While I enjoy coding in general, my specific goal for diving in is to one day be able to get a job in video game development. I have come to realise learning to code is a really steep hill to climb, but I am enjoying the journey and process of learning a new tool! Finally - to address the intellectual elephant in the digital room - what does a philosopher have to offer in a professional sense? 1. Unleashing Fresh Perspectives: Philosophers possess a unique ability to approach problems from diverse angles, offering fresh perspectives that can inspire innovative solutions and drive creative thinking.2. Cultivating Ethical Excellence and Inclusive Environments: With a background in ethics and moral reasoning, philosophers can navigate complex ethical dilemmas and establish a strong ethical foundation, fostering a culture of integrity and responsibility.3. Fostering Empathy and Diversity: Philosophers often engage with diverse perspectives and empathize with different viewpoints. Their presence can contribute to a more inclusive work environment that values diverse ideas, experiences, and backgrounds.4. Effective Communication and Collaboration: Philosophers excel in clear and concise communication. Their ability to engage in thoughtful discussions can enhance collaboration, bridge gaps between teams, and promote effective knowledge sharing.

Unemployed
Danish Customer Insights Specialist
This is a QA-esque position, where I analyse and track customer experiences of apps, websites, and marketing content. I then transform these analyses into actionable insights that the clients and developers can utilize to improve the product.
Graduate
I finished my master's degree in philosophy (specialising in phenomenology and philosophy of consciousness) with a 12 for my thesis, along with an 11,14 average grade for the entirety of my education. My thesis "Schizophrenia as a Self-Disorder: Contrasting Western and Japanese Approaches" discussed how the abstract, intangible, and consequently, sometimes fragile, definitions of schizophrenia can be unified across barriers of language and culture. The conclusion I arrived at was, that in both Western and Japanese approahces, schizophrenia can - from the perspective of phenomenological psychopathology - be described as a self-disorder that manifests in the patient's experiences of themselves. However, the main difference was, that the Japanese perspective has a much more distinct emphasis on the social aspects of the disorder, i.e. how the disorder manifests in other's experience of me and how I experience myself when I am with others. While doing my MA in philosophy, I also wrote an English "philosophical fantasy" novel. I did it for 2 reasons: 1) I love writing and I love fiction writing in general (especially fantasy and sci-fi - "The Hobbit" is my favourite novel). 2) I genuinely love contributing to academia and reading academia... however, it can also be very exclusionary and somewhat elitist. Therefore, inspired by philosophers like Sartre, Camus, and Nietzsche, I decided to try to convey my philosophical ideas through something a bit more engaging and accessible. For this book in particular, I focus on more existential ideas, e.g. finding purpose in life, navigating religion, becoming your own person, etc.As such, I like to think that I have two thesis projects: An academic treatment of schizophrenia as a self-disorder and a fantasy treatment of existentialism and what it means to find meaning in life.
Undergraduate Student
Here, I was introduced to fundamental areas of philosophy, e.g. phenomenology, ethics, philosophy of science, metaphysics, etc.My BA project revolved around the issue of communicating the lived experience of suffering from schizophrenia. Essentially, schizophrenia is a complex disorder which can manifest in nummerous different and seemingly incoherent symptoms. This can make it hard to both understand and relate to the disorder. As an alternative, my project revolved around accurate presentation of the schizophrenic experience in various mediums, e.g. through painting, writing, video-games, VR experiences, etc. all with the purpose of generating understanding and empathy.
Exchange Student
When I started at the University of Copenhagen, I initially majored in Japanese studies (I specifically did "Propaedeutics"), mainly focusing on language, culture, and history. As a part of this study, I self-organized a 6-month exchange to Chuo University in Tokyo. Specifically, I learned a lot of the basics in Copenhagen (Hiragana, Katakana, Kanji, grammar, and speaking practice), and then applied this at Chuo University, further developing my speech to the conversational level (which turned out to be quite imperative, since only 1/4 of my teachers actually spoke English).
Pedagogical Assistant
