With my MSc degree Mechanical & Precision Engineering at TUDelft, I joined Philips Electron Optics in Eindhoven the Netherlands, leading the development of Field Emission Technology and Ultra high Resolution for Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) Modules, cooperating with Gatan, Inc., E.A. Fischione Inc, and Oxford Instruments on Cryo TEM solutions. In 1988 I became Product Sales Specialist, based in Cambridge, UK. In this role, I worked with leading scientists on the development and sales of electron microscopes for Life Science and Materials Research. In 1997 Philips Electron Optics merged with FEI Company (USA, Oregon) to increase the presence of both companies in the Semiconductor Industry. I became one of the key people to create ONE company in my role as R&D manager both in the Netherlands and in the USA (Hillsboro, OR). Under my leadership both the Small Dual Beam system and the Titan product range -including an integrated Cs-corrector in cooperation with CEOS GmbH- were developed. Titan is the basis of the "Krios", the undisputed standard in cryo-EM. In 2006 I became Managing Director of 2 operating companies of NTS-Group, a leading company in the supply chain of high-tech systems, turning these companies around to be more customer-minded and profitable. In 2011 I got the opportunity to be CEO of Phenom-World, turning the company into the market and technology leader in table top Scanning Electron Microscopy with annual sales growing from 70 to >450 systems per year. I used my talents in people management and execution to make this company grow fast with excellent profitability and minimum need for working capital in close cooperation with our suppliers. In 2018, we sold Phenom-World to ThermoFisher Inc. Currently, I am involved in 2 High Tech start-up companies, as investor and manager.
