I have 6+ years academic advising experience at the junior college and university levels. I am experienced in working with a diverse group of student populations including: traditional/non-traditional, athletes, probation, freshmen through senior, etc.My husband and I became caregivers to his grandfather in 2019 and in August of 2021 I resigned from my position as Academic Advisor with Lamar State College Orange to pursue an education in nursing in order to better care for my grandfather-in-law. In August of 2022, I graduated with my Certificate of Completion in Vocational Nursing and passed the NCLEX to become a licensed nurse. My husband and I were caregivers to Paw Paw for 3 1/2 wonderful years. Paw Paw was diagnosed with dementia at the age of 87 and he passed 2 1/2 months after his 91st birthday. During my time with him I gained valuable experience and began to scratch the surface of the medical field. I practiced a lot of beside skills for a bed bound patient, such as, activities of daily living, but I also tended to bed sores, daily assessments/vital signs, medication administration, rectal hydration, digital removal of stool (when that time came), and palliative care when Paw Paw was placed on hospice. I also had the profound privilege to provide postmortem care as my last act of service and respect for Paw Paw.Currently, I am working with a wonderful company, Advanced Pediatric Care Inc., who provides one-on-one care in the home for patients with special medical needs. With my current patient, I provide G-button feeding/water, G-button site care, medication administration, reinforce teachings of physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy.
