The client of our first team project was Juha Suonpää, photographer, principal lecturer of visual culture and head of fine art at Tampere University of Applied Sciences. The working title we received in the first stages of SCiL Summer was “Useless Items”, which derived from one of Juha’s own projects called CiCat. This project focused on creating artistic "calls to action" concerning consumerism, the climate crisis and how we can make small changes by recycling, upcycling and being more mindful.The second project, which I worked on with a different team, was called The Korko Project and focused on researching ways of learning the Finnish language better and how students with adequate Finnish skills could become even better and reach an academic level of speaking and writing the language. We set out to create an app where students of Tampere Universities could learn together and from each other with an emphasis on building communities and networking--all with the help of academic Finnish to reach a higher level of education and find a fulfilling career in Finland.
