My 13 years of work experience revolve around two main themes: education and activism. I have worked as an educator since 2012, when I started as a tutor at the Evanston Family Focus center while a student of Education and Social Policy at Northwestern University, helping low-income K-5 students with math and English homework. I continued working in the education field during my Master's program at the Universidad de las Américas Pueblas as an history and English teacher at the Preparatoria UPAEP Santiago. I really discovered the dedication that is needed to be a teacher in this position, as I taught over 100 students in both English and Spanish with an International Baccalaureate style curriculum that I developed from scratch with no assistance from textbooks. After my Master's program, I moved back to my home town of Bushnell, IL and started working as a substitute teacher, part time at first, and now as a full time contracted staff member, where also I use my extensive experience in foreign languages (Spanish, Thai, and Chinese) to work one-on-one with our ESL students and develop international curriculum for the after-school program I am in charge of. In addition to being a student and educator, I have been an activist and organizer, both volunteer and paid. In college I was an intern with the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago's Office of Peace and Justice organizing the social justice missions of the numerous parishes in the Archdiocese. Back in western Illinois, I worked as a field director and organizer for the John Curtis for State Representative and Gregg Johnson for State Senate campaigns during the 2018 election cycle. On June 1, 2019, I declared my run for state representative of the IL 93rd district, running as a working class candidate for working class people. As the future is uncertain due to Covid-19, I look forward to using my experience in education and activism along with my foreign language and organizing skills to continue to build up my community.
