Hostelling International (HI), formerly known as the International Youth Hostel Federation (IYHF), is the federation of more than 70 National Youth Hostel Associations in 80+ countries with over 4,000 affiliated hostels around the world. Hostelling International (HI) Iceland is a non-governmental and non-profit membership organization established in 1939, consisting of 35 hostels around Iceland. The organisation is a member of Hostelling International, a global network of Youth Hostel Associations of over 4000 hostels in more than 80 countries.HI Iceland currently ranks No 1 in Sustainability in the Hostelling International network and is recognized as the leading organization in sustainable tourism in Iceland. The organization has received numerous awards and recognition for its work in sustainability.My main tasks are to:- ensure that all HI Iceland's hostels work in harmony with the organization's Quality and Sustainability Standards (via regular audits, workshops, training etc.)- audit all new hostels that wish to join the network and prepare the SWOT reports for the board of HI Iceland- assist the hostels in achieving quality and sustainability certifications- deal with complaints received by the organization - carry out surveys to follow up on customers' satisfaction - apply for funding and create projects that support the organization's mission and sustainable tourism in Iceland- be the organization's Erasmus+ Coordinator, apply for European Voluntary Service (EVS) funding, evaluate and support volunteers during their projects - maintain and report annually all necessary documentation for the Swan - The Nordic Ecolabel of the 3 Reykjavík Hostels; support and guide the "green messengers/sustainable volunteers" in collecting data and making the annual reports- maintain and renew annually the Earth Check Assessed benchmark at the Reykjavík Campsite- collaborate both nationally and internationally with like-minded partners that support HI Iceland's mission- conduct training for the hostel owners, managers and staff about quality and sustainability aspects in hostels- implement and maintain the HI-Quality Management System in HI Iceland's main office

My tasks evolved from being a sustainability volunteer for the Reykjavík Hostels to becoming the Sustainability Coordinator and Project Manager for HI Iceland's chain of 30+ hostels around the country and for the Reykjavík Campsite.I am most grateful I had the chance to guide the Reykjavík Campsite to become the first campsite in Iceland to have ever received an official environmental certification for its work for the environment (Earth Check).http://www.mbl.is/smartland/heimili/2012/09/19/tjaldsvaedid_i_laugardal_faer_umhverfisvottun/

I mingled a whole summer around the shops of Bucharest with a backpack, trying to sell all sorts of beauty products. I got very fit after this summer and gained great confidence in myself.
