Research Assistant

Stanford University

The Chinese Railroad Workers Project is a joint research project between the History and English departments at Stanford University with participating scholars from other institutions in the U.S., China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Canada. The CRWP seeks to uncover and give voice to the lost stories of Chinese migrants who helped build the Transcontinental Railroad and, therefore, the American West. The project aims to create an online digital archive that will help us understand more about these migrant workers not just as numbers on a payroll sheet but as shaping influences of the social landscape of the West. The CRWP also culminated in a series of conferences at Stanford and in Asia in 2015, the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the first large group of Chinese workers. My duties as a research assistant included: - Creating an organization system for project communications and documents- Scanning and cataloging primary sources to upload onto digital archive- Reading, annotating, and creating a literary review of primary and secondary source documents- Archiving primary and secondary sources using Bibliopedia and metadata
