In an experiential learning experience provided through Concordia, three other students and I evaluated the current discharge planning practices within Essentia for opportunities to reduce hospital readmissions, and cut costs. After conducting interviews, observing workflows, and doing research, we presented our recommendations for changes in discharge planning to select administrators and medical staff. One of our recommendations was for healthcare professionals to visit high risk patients in their homes after discharge, which would reduce readmission rates and emergency room utilization. Shortly after our project was complete, Essentia developed their community paramedic program.

As a major project, I overhauled the Concordian's website (www.theconcordian.org) to increase functionally, unify the branding to match the print paper, and grow website utilization. Each week I collaborated with section editors to adapt content from the print paper to the web.
