Emil Rem is the author of Chasing Aphrodite, a travel memoir consisting of short stories that take the author on a trip around the world, as Emil revisits the places he traveled and lived in the 1960s and 1970s.Set in Cyprus, Tanzania, the Philippines, England, Emil's stories talk to what makes us, despite our different cultures and locations, all human - the values which all people hold, around the world and across generations.Born in 1955 to middle-class East Indian Muslim parents in Tanzania, Emil immigrated to England at the age of five and was fostered by a working-class Church of England family. He spent his formative years commuting between the two communities, eventually settling in Calgary, Canada, as an accountant.He began writing in 2014 upon the death of his Indian father, the latest of many voices cut off by death in old age that had guided him and his community at large. This loss impelled him to preserve their wisdom for future generations, including his two teenage sons.
