About Emily Allwright
Experienced materials and electrochemist with a passion for developing novel technologies and processing methods. I currently work as a Process Engineer at Printed Electronics, a process development and integration company in Tamworth. My main duties in this role include developing and optimising processes for device fabrication as well as producing devices to clients’ specifications. Previously, I completed a PhD with the Robertson Molecular Materials group at the University of Edinburgh, during which I successfully developed a novel method for depositing films of small molecules using electrodeposition. My fascination with materials chemistry, novel technologies and environmental chemistry dates from an early age; I have always wanted to know how things work. Even though I enjoy all aspects of my work, I am particularly interested in the development of new processes. I find it very rewarding to work on a new device and see it progress from theory to prototype.Specialities: Electrochemistry, materials characterization, particularly optical properties, and device testing
Listed skills include Science, Research, Chemistry, Laboratory, and 24 others.

Process Engineer & Electrochemist
Developing and optimizing processes for the production of printed electronic devices. This includes:• Testing substrates and inks to ensure that the developed process and devices fit the client's specifications and needs.• Trial printing processes to ensure that theorised method produces expected results. These include screen printing of conductive, dielectric and active materials. Inkjet printing of both conductive inks and etch resist for etched circuits.• Printing devices such as antennas, electroluminescent (EL) devices, electrochromic displays, sensors, hybrid circuits, anti-tampering devices, strain gauges and batteries.• Assembling prototype devices before mass production.• Performing quality control to ensure that there is minimal variation in the prototypes produced.• Finding the most efficient way to produce and build devices.
Phd Student
Thesis title: Electrochemical Deposition of Small Molecules for Electronic MaterialsSupervisor: Professor Neil Robertson Key features of research:• Develop a method for the electrochemical deposition of films of small molecules used in organic electronic materials.• Chemical reduction of small molecules and subsequent electrochemical oxidation for production of films.• Study of films' properties by absorption spectroscopy, photoluminescence, scanning electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction and photo-electrochemistry.• Electrodeposition of films of small molecules on interdigitated electrode substrates to study their electronic properties.I also supervised visiting students and newcomers to the research group.
Laboratory Demonstrator (Part-Time)
Supervision of 8 to 14 1st year undergraduate students in teaching laboratory• Responsible for health and safety procedure of the experiments• Teaching practical laboratory skills• Teaching reporting methods• Report marking
Environmental Chemistry Intern
• Organising the routine monitoring of the site• Analysis of air quality using thermal desorption sorbent by GC-MS/FID• Analysis of Perimeter Noise Data• Preparing monthly summary reports • Research project calibrating a new piece of equipment and investigating its potential• Preparing reports to deal with queries from the public
