Role profileI provide strategic leadership in driving forward the RCPCH's mission and objectives to deliver research and quality improvement activities. This includes responsibility for the development and production of a suite of clinical standards and guidelines to improve paediatric practice and child health, ensuring the smooth running of key national audit programmes and other research related activities, delivery of the Invited Reviews service and the collection and dissemination of accurate and timely data and evidence to inform workforce planning and models of care.I am also responsible for developing and driving a strong strategy to grow and expand paediatric research capacity and activity, supporting the British Paediatric Surveillance Unit and the development of clinical content for Paediatric Care Online, a point of care decision-support system.I lead a department of 35 people in five different multidisciplinary teams.

Achievements- Led the development and update of the RCPCH's policy strategy 2019-2022- Co-wrote 'Child health in England in 2030: comparisons with other wealthy countries' setting out recommendations to improve child health which were successfully adopted and included in the NHS England long term plan- Coordinated six partner organisations (National Children's Bureau, Children's Society, The Office of the Children's Commissioner, the Association of Young People's Health, ClicSargent and the RCPCH) and their collective and joint response to prioritise child health in the NHS England long term plan- Led the development of the State of Child Health scorecards in 2018 and 2019 to assess how well each of the governments in the four UK nations were implementing recommendations published by the RCPCH in 2017- Contributed and co-wrote 'Achieving consensus advice for paediatricians and other health professionals: on prevention, recognition and management of conflict in paediatric practice'

Achievements- Coordinating and developing key messages and communications on RCPCH's new governance and trustee arrangements - Representative on and adviser to the British Medical Association's child health project board- Providing media and public affairs training to paediatricians at RCPCH's annual conference - Completing the RCPCH's 'Aspire to Inspire' senior leadership course and delivery of business development support project to Royal Society of Public Health on sustainable fundraising and income generationRole profile Responsibility for leading and managing the media and external affairs function for the RCPCH. I report directly to the Chief Executive and work closely with the RCPCH President to maintain and promote the College's profile and impact and continue to position it as the leading voice on child health. The role was at the forefront of turning policy positions into effective campaigning strategies, formalising key messages and promoting them to a range of audiences including paediatricians, civil servants, journalists, politicians and key opinion leaders. I lead a team of 11 members of staff some of whom are based remotely in Belfast, Cardiff and Edinburgh.

Achievements- Leading the development & implementation of health policy strategy 2015 -18- Wrote 'Vision 2015' - RCPCH's policy document to inform the main political parties manifestos ahead of the 2015 general election- Developing a business case for the establishment of a Health Promotion Committee & Clinical Lead for Mental Health- Organising & hosting an obesity summit & drafting a stakeholder report to inform the development of the Government's child obesity strategy - Restructuring the Policy Team & redesigning roles & job descriptions to fit business needRole profileA senior leadership role working closely with the RCPCH President, Vice President for Health Policy and senior colleagues to develop College health policy strategy and positions and communicate policies to Government, the medical profession and paediatric workforce, stakeholders and the general public. Managing a team of four and coordinating the work plans and delivery of six committees.

Achievements- Leading the methodology & development of comparative policy analysis into the cancer strategies in each of the UK's four nations (report title: Improving outcomes: a strategy for cancer)- Commissioned research from the Health Services Management Centre at Birmingham University on impact of NHS reforms and efficiency savings on cancer services in England and developed set of bespoke recommendations for Government & commissioners (report title: Cancer services: reverse, pause or progress?)- Developed Cancer Research UK's position in response to the NHS and public health reforms included in the Health & Social Care Act 2010- Successfully presented to the Welsh Government the need & business case for the development & roll-out of an early diagnosis initiative for cancer in WalesRole profileManager with oversight for the development of policy positions on cancer services & public health. Line management responsibility for a team of three Policy Advisers & interns/graduate trainees. Deputised for Head of Policy and acted as representative on government stakeholder groups including the Cancer Diagnostics Advisory Board and Cancer Patients Experience Advisory Board.

Achievements- Coordinated, developed & project managed policy research about the experiences of South Asian children and young people who witnessed domestic violence. This research led the government to commit to a review of the definition of domestic violence with a view to include children & young people and in putted into the review of the no-recourse to public funds principle- Developed & published qualitative research from calls to Childline about sex & relationships education. This information successfully influenced the then Labour Government to include sex & relationships education within the PSHE statutory framework in EnglandRole profilePolicy Adviser for Safeguarding responsible for commissioning policy research, line managing policy researchers and developing evidence base interventions and organisational policies on a range of legally technical issues such as domestic violence and forced marriage.

Achievements- Clerk to the All Party Parliamentary Group on Cancer with responsibility for setting the annual work programme- Drafting speeches for the Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Cancer - Organising the Britain Against Cancer conference which attracted over 500 delegates- Developing policy positions on the patient choice agenda and cancer genetics
