As a Lab Technician at Viacord, I’m responsible for preparing, processing, and ensuring the quality of biological samples, including cord blood and cord tissue. I start by preparing specialized kits for use in the lab and perform controlled rate freezing on samples to protect the cells during storage. I also maintain a clean and sterile lab environment by regularly cleaning and sterilizing equipment.In addition to preparing samples, I aliquot blood for various tests, including celiac disease screenings, genomic analysis, and stem cell storage. I also prepare buffers (Buffer B and Buffer EDB) used in cord tissue decomposition. After sample prep, I monitor bacterial contamination in the lab by performing daily checks with tryptic soy broth to make sure all chemicals meet sterility standards.I also manage our training board, where I track and relay information on team members' cross-training progress, helping to ensure that the lab team is well-equipped and knowledgeable across different processes.Collaboration with my team is key to ensuring we follow strict protocols and maintain high standards for sample processing, storage, and overall lab safety.
