Emily Dake has a decade of experience in nonprofit operations and development, and currently serves as the Development Manager for WISER International, a US based nonprofit that partners with a Kenyan NGO to run a girls high school, solar powered electricity and clean water for the surrounding community, a sexual and reproductive health education. Prior, she ran a successful grant writing consulting business for community-based organizations in New York City and the Hudson Valley, New York. Emily received a Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in Health Behavior at the Gillings School of Global Public Health at UNC Chapel Hill, where she served as a student representative for the Health Behavior MPH cohort of 2020. She was also awarded one of three Lucy S. Morgan Fellowships for integrity, leadership, academics, and Public Health commitment, and serving as the Fundraising Co-Chair for the 2020 Gillings Minority Health Conference, the largest student-led Public Health Conference in the country. Her areas of study include qualitative research and analysis, community-based participatory research, social epidemiology, social determinants of health, and accessible program planning, implementation, and evaluation tools and supports. Emily brings to the table a wide range of skills, including organized and efficient project and staff management, nuanced internal and external communications, creative and energetic research, exceptional writing and editing, and a clear and demonstrated passion for social justice and community organizing. She has a Bachelor’s degree in English from Vassar College, where she served as a writing consultant and teaching assistant, and has received domestic violence training from CONNECT Training Institute as well as Rape Crisis Advocacy certification from Bellevue Hospital Department of Social Work. Originally from Chattanooga, TN, she now calls Asheville, NC home with her rescue pups Petey and Kevin.
