As a child therapist, I currently work in a school-based setting with Beech Acres Parenting Center’s “Beyond the Classroom” program. I provide school-aged children with evidence-based, compassionate, client-centered, strength-based mental health services. I chose to work with Beech Acres Parenting Center as I not only believe in their mission, but also their efforts to become accessible to all families.My love of advocating for children began when I worked with the OhioSTART program for child welfare agencies. I would work to advocate for children and families facing barriers involving substance use disorders and coexisting child abuse/neglect. Long before I became a social worker, I worked as a caregiver and health coordinator for people with developmental disabilities. This is where I truly harnessed my skills of advocacy, compassion, and person-centered care. For as long as I can remember, I have championed social justice movements. My value of social justice has transcended to calls of action. I have worked alongside a plethora of organizations, such as Planned Parenthood of SW Ohio, Abortion Fund of Ohio, and URGE. I advocate for harm reduction and racial justice.I chose to become a social worker as I wanted to harness my skills of compassion, advocacy, and communication. As an individual, I have a calling to work alongside others to overcome societal disenfranchisements. I enjoy the problem-solving aspect of social work, but most of all I enjoy working with people. This career has allowed me to challenge the systems that place people in the margins of society, and directly impact the lives of others.
