I aim to use my environmental science background to investigate environmental risks in urbanized areas; in graduate school, I characterized over 300 flood responses in urban and suburban streams in the city of Saint Louis. This allowed me to tie physical flash flooding risks to groundwater inputs to streams during flooding, as understanding groundwater inputs assists in the conceptualization of pollutant dilution and ecosystem health in urbanized environments. I enjoy engaging communities in science-related topics, and I hope to bring more interest and awareness on the natural resources people in my community rely. I have written short-essay materials for a local ecology center and given a presentation for Missouri Stream Team in order to begin cultivating outreach skills.

Graduate Research AssistantSaint Louis University Jul 2017 - Jul 2019Saint Louis, MissouriMy thesis researched focused on urban stream storm response, and ultimately found that although urbanized streams are highly altered in regards to their physical response, groundwater inputs (that I identified with chemical tracers) had more dynamic and buffered response to increases in urbanization. This led me to the hypothesis that groundwater inputs to streams during flooding, at least in humid, limestone hosted watersheds, are less impacted than previous research would suggest. -
