As a Senior political science student, I began my college career amid a global pandemic and political turmoil. I decided to pursue political science and more specifically public service because of my experience as a young adult with Type 1 Diabetes. Having this disease since I was 5 meant that advocating for myself and my needs was a skill I developed early on. When I was given the chance to lobby my representatives to fund diabetes research, I learned about how the government functions and the role our representatives play in society. I felt the urge to get involved and work to make the lives of the people in my community and this country better. Since starting, I have developed a passion for the way writing can assist our leaders in achieving their goals. Writing is an influential way for people to educate themselves on government and their representatives' actions. I hope to use my skill to improve the way people outside of government view our elected leaders and the political process while diversifying the types of people in leadership positions as well as the perspectives they provide.
