About Emily Duncan

I have over fifteen years of legislative and regulatory experience with energy, environment, climate, finance, tax, trade, appropriations and defense issues in the natural gas, renewable, nuclear and electric power and utility industries. I am currently Senior Vice President, Federal Affairs for American Electric Power (AEP) where I oversee our relationships with Members of Congress, federal agencies, the administration, and various trade associations. I am also responsible for our federal grants team, which looks for opportunities across the federal government to lower costs for our customers. I was most recently Vice President, Government Relations and Head of the Washington Office for National Grid, an electricity and natural gas utility serving customers in New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Prior to National Grid, I was Director of Government Affairs and Counsel at the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), a trade association representing 1,000 member companies throughout the solar supply chain, including utilities, developers, manufacturers, installers, law firm, banks and accounting firms. There, I directed SEIA’s federal tax policy and help lead SEIA’s advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill and in the Administration as well as in the state of Texas and at NARUC. Upon graduating from law school, I was an energy regulatory attorney at Winston & Strawn LLP, a global law firm. There, I represented utilities and energy companies before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. I have a JD from Duke University and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania.I am past Chairman of the Board of the Business Council for Sustainable Energy and a former President of the DC Chapter of the Women's Energy Network. I sat on the Boards of the Clean Energy Business Network, the Global Business Alliance, the British American Business Association, the National Energy Resources Organization, and Women in Government Relations. I serve on the Advisory Board for the University of Pennsylvania's Kleinman Center for Energy Policy. I’m always interested in hearing from former colleagues and classmates so feel free to contact me if you would like to connect.
