Being a college graduate coming into the “real world” in the middle of a pandemic is a whirlwind of emotions and choices. Many questions shoot through your mind all at once… Should I apply for jobs that are remote or in person? Is it safe? What are companies looking for in candidates at this day and age? Should I look for a job in a different profession? I’m lucky that I was able to fulfill a full-time position at a small company as the Accounts Receivable Coordinator. My position is not exactly what you’d expect. Since, our office is small, everyone in our office has many hats that they wear during any given business day. The hats that I wear include Accounts Receivable, IT specialist, and sometimes even Human Resources Assistant.Since as far back as I can remember, I loved to figure out how things work. From experimenting on different projects using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word & PowerPoint) to looking up simple hacks for phones or tablets. Luckily, I can use my passion of figuring out how things work in my job. I’m one of two colleagues at work people go to for help dealing with anything from Excel problems to software issues with their computer. I’m able to utilize my accounting minor and business writing to assist my colleagues daily.When I’m not at work or hanging out with friends, I love to curl up with a book or do some research regarding how to improve the skills that I want to harness. Some of these skills include SQL and Python. The most important piece of information that I learned within the past couple of years is to Be Kind. We don’t know what’s happening in other people’s lives and we have no right to add to their burdens. Being kind and adaptable to any situation!
