* Spanish language medical interpreter for the Open Door Clinic, a facility that serves uninsured and underinsured patients in Addison County, VT. Many are Latino migrant workers who are employed on dairy farms in the county, and my role is to facilitate communication between doctors and patients.* Received additional training (through Cross-Cultural Communications Systems, Inc.) in the Fall of 2016 to interpret for mental health appointments. Most of the mental health appointments I have interpreted for center around postpartum depression. * When I received my EMT license in March of that same year, I was able to expand my contributions. * Interned under Dusica Baijc, Pediatric Anesthesiologist and Assistant Professor of Anesthesia at Harvard Medical School* Participated in both animal and human studies regarding the effects of prolonged morphine administration at an early age on brain anatomy and function* Rat studies: I completed statistical data analysis of GFAP-imunofluorescent images of astrocytic hypertrophy in the ventrolateral periaqueductal gray of adult rats treated with morphine and saline. I also performed FSL analysis on fMRI images of brains from rats treated with morphine and saline to determine significant differences in Resting State Networks. * Human studies: For patients who were candidates for the human portion of the morphine study, I conducted chart reviews to collect and calculate bolus doses before MRI scans. I also contacted candidate families to recruit them for the study, including Spanish-speaking patients, and re-wrote the study brochure in Spanish to expand our potential recruitment pool.* Attended monthly meetings at the Center for Pain and Brain (PAIN Research Group) during which I interacted with various post-docs and PIs who presented their research
